Misconceptions: Is Disappointment Holding You Back?

sad Misconceptions: Is Disappointment Holding You Back?Forgive me if this article is a bit “me,me,me”. It grew out of my Note From Nicola” and actually outgrew it, so bear with me and see if it sparks anything off in your thoughts. If so, I would love you to make a comment below there…tell me your story.

A bit of background….there is a right old furore going on in the coaching world at the moment with an internet based reality tv show happening, called “Britian’s Next Top Coach”.

It’s turning the coaching world upside down with two main camps developing, for and against.

Those who are “against” are largely anti-competition and anti-marketing, and those who are “for”, are thinking that this is going to raise the benefits of coaching and personal development - something Joe Public is woefully ignorant of - and this can only be “a good thing”.

The “for” camp are also eyeing the winners packages, which include a lot of very nice prizes including a promotion and management deal, a potential book deal with a mainstream publisher, and much much more.

I’ve largely ignored it all until Judith emailed me a link saying that I should go for it. In her words “you’ve got the balls” and it would be great for the Money Gym.

Not to mention my Star/Creator profile. I am drawn to telly and while this is internet video, it’s nearly the same thing and may lead to telly.

But I found myself finding lots of different reasons - misconceptions - not to enter, from “oh, they will insist on us giving up the ebook rights and that will kill our marketing” to “oh, the whole coaching world will despise me for the self-promoting limelight seeker I am” and loads of other rubbish gubbins as well.

Then it struck me, I didn’t want to enter because I didn’t want to compete with other coaches, and especially not so publically!

Cheer Up & Keep Trying

mark_forster Cheer Up & Keep TryingOver at the ever excellent Mark Forster’s blog I found a reference to a blog my Yaro Starak (another favourite of mine) on how to keep going when you really feel like giving up. Excellent, I thought, so here it is….

yarostarak Cheer Up & Keep Trying“Like most people, some mornings I wake up and feel less than enthusiastic about working. Sometimes, this feeling doesn’t stem from laziness or apathy, it’s a stronger power, a sense of futility and helplessness.

I know a lot of people look to my story of success as a source of inspiration and that is one of the greatest benefits I enjoy as a blogger, but - and I’m not afraid to admit it - I don’t always feel energized to pursue business and sometimes in my darkest moments, I even consider throwing in the towel.

This feeling is not so common for me now as I have lifestyle flexibility, a more stable income and a better mindset about work, but earlier on, it definitely was a problem. I want to explain how I overcome these moments (and still do the same thing now on occasion) to stay on track and how you can even have a productive day when you are not really feeling the mojo on the inside.

I expect you have felt similar feelings of despair or a lack of motivation at different stages of your business development, especially if you are yet to establish an income stream online that is sufficient for you to live off, or if you are right at the beginning and you have not seen one cent of return for the work you have put in.

Inspired or Dejected
Depending on your world view and personality style, when you hear of the success of others you may either feel inspired or dejected, and while it’s obviously more fruitful to look at other people achieving what you desire as motivation, as a fallible human, jealousy, depression and anger may be your initial responses.

Your mind is your greatest asset for success in business, but it can be just as strong a force of hindrance, sabotaging your efforts, destroying your work ethic and leaving you with no option but to return to the soul destroying job you promised yourself that you would never go back to.

How To Work When You Don’t Feel Like It

One of the characteristics I believe is at the heart of my success and the success of most entrepreneurs, is an ability to keep working in the face of failure and an ability to force yourself to be productive when you don’t feel like it.

Passive Income - Google Trends Rank Us!

When The Money Gym launched it’s first “Passive Income - 90 Day Internet Challenge” and sent out our press release, little did we think that we would trigger a spike in Google Trends tracking of the key phrase “passive income”.

Here’s how we explained it:

“Whilst the coaches at The Money Gym (www.themoneygym.com) are huge believers in the importance of educating ourselves about the various ways of creating wealth, they are equally aware that nothing beats learning by doing. So, they’ve decided to encourage people to just get down and do it with The Money Gym Passive Income Challenge.

Nowadays, we are always hearing about the big bucks that can be made on the internet, millions of dollars/pounds in one day sometimes, and the concept of making money while you sleep is an exciting one — if true. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to sit at home in our pajamas eating left-over Easter eggs, watching Jeremy Kyle on the telly and stopping only briefly to see how many more sales have pinged into our Paypal account?

Just one ebook sale per day @ £20, from one one-page website, would make an extra £7300 a year — enough for a new car or a couple of nice holidays. Two or three ebooks doing the same would make £21,900 — nearly a full time wage. The beauty of the Internet is that you do the work once, and the money keeps coming.

But the reality is that many people end up making a tenner here, twenty quid there, but never get much further.

In contrast, Nicola Cairncross, founder of the Money Gym, has built a six-figure business marketed entirely online and once made £14,000 in one weekend from one mailout. She knows exactly why people run out of steam in the quest for passive income — in her experience would-be internet entrepreneurs often aren’t prepared to focus attention in one place, on one thing, for long enough to make it work.

Nicola suggests focusing on just one thing - one information product, one niche or one passionate interest - and take consistent regular actions that include:

  • Creating a web presence — a sales page, a brochure site, a blog. All of them preferably.
  • Capturing visitors’ details, encouraging them to subscribe to ezines (online newsletters).
  • Turning visitors into raving fans by providing regular, maybe even daily, valuable content.
  • Having a system to automate the selling of our product.
  • Replicating the process.

As Nicola says, “like creating wealth, making money online is simple but it’s not easy, you have to get off your “assets”, learn new skills and take some action”.

To encourage — or even bully their Money Gym members to success, Nicola and business partner Judith Morgan have decided to set up an Internet Challenge. It’s a three-month personal challenge for anyone who has day-dreamed about creating passive income, or perhaps started but fizzled out along the way.

Anyone can join them for what will be a three-month personal challenge by visiting http://www.TheMoneyGymClub.com and joining the club at Silver Level.

Already people are getting excited about their goals, swapping resources and information…with Nicola on hand to keep everyone focused. And The Money Gym are further incentivising their new Silver members and supporting them in the Challenge by giving them free lifetime access to Nicola’s 12-Step Internet Marketing Home Study Course - which retails for £1450 - and membership of a private email support group. This will provide encouragement, resources and a kick up the backside!

The Money Gym has helped hundreds of people along the road to financial independence (and created millionaires along the way) via their 1:2:1 Money Gym Gold wealth coaching programme. It is a powerful, practical down to earth programme that teaches participants a solid and proven way of creating wealth, with a choice of ways to suit your personality. These could be a choice of, or a combination of high risk, high return investment, solid bricks and mortar, or building a business that you can sell or use to set you up for life”.

So 60 days in, how are the participants getting on?  I thought I would ask them to update you here on the blog - which apart from inspiring you all, will give their projects a useful link from a blog now ranking 3/10 on Google Page Rank.

So guys, who is going to be first to step up to the comments box?

Joint Ventures RIP! Long Live Strategic Partnerships

This week has been an interesting one in the world of both business success and internet marketing.  The excellent Stompernet faculty has opened it’s long closed doors to a limited number of new students and what is rapidly growing into the “must join” membership site / online university has been following the classic “product launch formula” method of giving away great content before selling anyone anything.

Attraction marketing at it’s finest.

One of the things that Stompernet have been giving away, is lots and lots of free videos on improving your rankings in the Search Engines.  Check out those and their fantastic new and totally free tool to find out what Google sees when it visits your site here >>>

Another is Brad Fallon, founder of Stompernet, together with one of my mentors Rich Schefren, discussing on some great videos on why you should stop thinking in terms of quick and dirty Joint Ventures (where you just mail for them and they mail for you) and start thinking in terms of value-adding strategic partnerships.

Think about who you could work with on a long term basis, that you

1.  Like - this is very important
2.  Respect - you have to feel happy recommending them and their company
3.  Know have unique content that you don’t have that your subscribers / members would enjoy/benefit from

We have long been a fan of this in The Money Gym, with our existing alliances with those who we consider to be the best in their field, such as our “Money Gym Presents….Our Favourite Experts” workshop presenters, but specifically Passive Investments, Tamkin Riaz, Marcus De Maria, Alan Forrrest Smith and now Tim Brocklehurst, Brett McFall, Claire Raikes, and Dave Lee, The Cashflow Investor (see Wealth Highway article today).

But it’s all been a bit informal and I’m starting to think about making it more formalised and also more reciprocal in some cases.

Wealth Coach Diaries: Nicola’s Week

I’ve hosted two absolutely fascinating webinars since last week’s ezine, with Claire Raikes, the “Business Blog Angel” and Tim Brocklehurst “MyViralSpiral”. Covering wide ranging topics from internet marketing to business success, it was interesting to note that I don’t “know” either of them in the traditional sense, but because of their web presences, their recommendations and the fact that the Money Gym is a client of Tim’s and Judith is a client of Claire’s, we not only felt comfortable, but had a rocking good time!

You can hear both webinars at http://www.MoneyGymRadio.comI could have talked to Claire for hours for sure (but we had another call lined up!) and Tim and I did over-run somewhat…….I can’t wait to see them both in action at the “Money Gym Presents……The Internet” workshop next Saturday. Why not see if there are any early bird places left?

Steve has revamped our Affiliates page too, which looks much better and easy to use now. There are some graphics to use - book covers and banners for the site, and some code for videos you can put on your site very easily. The membership site makes layout a bit tricky but Steve is really getting his head around it - combination of techie and arty - so it’s much easier to use now. If you want to recommend The Money Gym, there are lots of ways to do that and earn some passive income so check out his new page - renamed the Affiliate Center

Summer, as usual, has taken me completely by surprise, this year, although my first born, Phoebe’s birthday on 3rd May, traditionally signals a burst of hot weather…….I well remember labouring through the hot night in my water bath overlooking Wormwood Scrubs (o yes!) which combination of pain and heat did NOT make for very attractive after-birth photos!!

Sweatshop Conditions At Money Gym

chris_barrow Sweatshop Conditions At Money GymMy ex-business coach, Chris Barrow just posted a blog post entitled “How Can We Be Expected To Work In Such Conditions?” and really, I have to agree with him! http://tinyurl.com/5wvbbe

I woke up at 6.30 this morning to another day of glorious sunsine - and the beach just over the road.

I’m tempted to just get my swimsuit out and grab my iPod and catch some rays while listening to a bit of Rich Schefren and swotting up further on the Rent2Own concept - perfect for these market conditions and a great cashflow generator!  But no, I have to go to London today.

After getting ready in a leisurely fashion, Steve will drop me off at our sleepy little station, and I’ll enjoy a largely empty train direct to Victoria.

I’m off to go to lunch at The Ivy, with Judith and Sue, Money Gym member and winner of our Women Talk theivyrestaurantlondon.jpgMoney Challenge, notably the person who increased her income by the most ££ in just three months.  Sue managed £25,000 plus - marvellous!

We always like to make prizes for clients at the Money Gym things that Judith and I want to do!!  Later this afternoon, we will be joined by Peter Stanley, of “Property Made Simple” fame, who is down from Manchester, and a member of my now defunct first mastermind team.  Not seen Peter for ages.

Then it’s off to the Rex Cinema in Rupert St, Soho, to meet my sister and enjoy the book launch for Michelle Magorian’s new book.

My opera singing sister Heather shared a house in Walthamstow with Michelle back in th 80’s - they were so poor in those days they literally had to break the ice in the loo due to NO CENTRAL HEATING!  Now Michelle is an acclaimed author with tomes including “Goodnight Mr Tom” starrring the late John Thaw in the film of, and she has a film deal sorted for the new book already.

Home again on the train, and as it will be a late night, I’ll have a lie in tomorrow, as I dont’ have to get up till the 11am Money Gym Wealth Surgery webinar for our Gold clients.

Why am I telling you all this?

Online Income - Back2Basics

We have hosted two internet marketing orientated webinars in the last two days and one of the things that has come out of them is that, with all the overwhelming amounts of info about, on how to get an online business going, you STILL sometimes feel like you don’t know where to start.

This is totally understandable, as new people are joining the mailing list / Money Gym club site all the time, and you may have joined us after the last article went out, on how to get started if you are a complete novice at this internet marketing lark!

Here’s an overview:

Step 1:  Build a website, blog or profile letting people know who you are and what you are interested in

Stept 2: Capture the names and emails of the visitors to your site, onto an automated mailing list, and keep in touch with them weekly

Step 3:  Find products or services that you genuinely think are great, become an affiliate of those things

Step 4:  Send out info on those things to your list with your affiliate link in

Step 5:  Create some products or services to offer yourself to your list

Step 6:  Find ways to outsource or automate all of the above

Did you see the recurrance of the word “list” in there?  This is because there are two things you need to make money online and one of them is a “mailing list”

Now, the above steps are simple but not easy and this is where the support of the Money Gym comes in.  But even our sites are big and overwhelmingly full of stuff, eh?

So, what I thought might be helpful is if I give you a short, simple list of Money Gym internet resources and where to find them?

RESOURCE 1.  Here is the link to three articles I have written, which will help you get started with internet marketing

Article :  Getting Started With Making Money Online http://tinyurl.com/66u7fg

FAQ:  Getting Started Online #2 http://themoneygym.com/blog/2006/07/21/faq-getting-started-online-2/

Useful Tip 1:  The blog has an internet marketing catagory called “Highway #2:  The Internet” which narrows it all down a bit - check the “archive” links too at the bottom of the oldest blog postings

Useful Tip 2 :  There is also a keyword search box down the side panel of the blog (just under the orange button / subscribe box), where you can search all 700+ previously archived postings by keyword or key phrase, or just on the topic you are interested in
RESOURCE 2:  At The Money Gym Club site, there are some forums where you can post questions and again, there is a search box down the left.

http://www.themoneygymclub.com/forums - register for free, login and post your questions.  Use the RSS feed facility to be notified when you get an answer.
RESOURCE 3:  Find all our most recommended resources here - the software, the tools and the people who we outsource to

http://www.themoneygymclub.com/categories/20070314_13

That’s it for today, I’ll be back tomorrow with some more internet marketing resources for you,

But don’t forget we have an Internet Marketing workshop coming up on Saturday 17th May, where you can find out all about list building on autopilot and how to blog to get business.

http://www.TheMoneyGym.com/mgpresents/internet1.htm

Cheers Nicola

p.s. There may be some earlybird tickets left at £97 but when the first 20 places have gone, it goes up to £147 - still well worth it at twice that investment!!
